@Fresno State

Dear Central California Chapter,

Thank you for celebrating TRiO Day 2018 on Saturday, February 24th at Fresno State from 10:00am till 3:30pm at the North Gym 118. This year the event created a connection between technology, advocacy and the National Day of Service. Students learned how technology can be used for promotion and advocacy.  We partnered with the Poverello House, a local agency that’s mission is to provide resources to individuals through community support, and our programs gathered more than 1,000 toiletry items to donate to the Poverello House. We also had 21 workshops that dealt with empowering students voices, their education and careers.  We also had a keynote speaker, Ms. Darlene Murray, WESTOP Achiever who shared her journey and motivation towards our 600 guests.  Students also wrote over 500 letters to Congressmen to be presented at Policy Seminar in March 2018.

It was truly a success.

Thank you,
Samantha Gonzales, Academic Counselor & TRiO Day Chair

TRIO DAY's purpose is for participants, staff and community advocates to  acknowledge National Trio Day by reflecting and providing an activity that highlights the  impact of TRiO and encourages local, state, and federal politicians to advocate for our programs. Each year our chapter reunites participants from all of our different programs to learn leadership skills and educate them on the importance and outcome of advocacy. Here you see TRiO Participants calling congressmen on a National Day of Service & others visiting the capital to bring awareness to our political constituents.
